Posting your Resume on propertyroles.com means you can sit back and let the employers search for you.
Employers can search Resumes for free and without registering. Resumes DO NOT display your name, address or contact details so it is always confidential and secure. When an employer sees a Resume they like they "Request" from you your name and contact details. But how can you ensure your Resume attracts as many employers as possible? Well there are a few key things you can do when creating your Resume to increase your chances for success.
We have broken up our tips for Resume success into two sections. One section for your online Resume and one for your offline Resume.
Your online Resume on propertyroles.com consists of 6 sections. Click on each section to go to our specific tips for success:
Your Personal Details
If you already have a propertyroles Job Alert then this section would already be almost fully completed. If you wish you can put two phone numbers in or just one and you can even put in an alternate email address. You will also need to select your Location. This is where you are now not where you wish to work. You will have an opportunity to select multiple work locations when you come to search jobs and in Work Preferences you can select if you are willing to travel or even relocate.
Please ensure you 'save and continue' after completing each page of your Resume, this means you will always be able to go back to what you have done by using the navigation options in the left Hand 'My Resume' menu.

Your Work Preferences
This is the section where you get to tell potential employers what you are really looking for. If you are currently a Development Manager and you wish to find a Senior Development Manager position then put Senior Development Manager in the Desired Job Title. Use this as a way to show employers what you are aiming for. However, of course, be realistic here and make sure your title is applicable for our industry and the area you work in or are looking to get into.
After your Desired Job Title, the Key Skills and Experience section is the first thing a potential employer sees on your Resume. It is really important to sell yourself here but try and be punchy and to the point. Employers love reading specific accomplishments but also want to know you have generic skills that are transferable, therefore try and give a mix of both. Here you would also include skills and experience you have gained across all past jobs and experiences, rather than just from your latest position.
After your Skills and Experience there a number of questions which help employers understand your current situation. What's important here is your salary specification. Be realistic in what you are hoping to earn. If you don't know what you should put or you are willing to look at a range of salary bands then put Negotiable. Employers don't have a problem with this.

Your Skills and Experience
Your Resume is categorised and searched by employers based on these selections. There is no limit to the number of applicable categories you can choose and the more you select the more times your Resume will come up in searches. However you need to ensure that you only select categories where you have real experience.

Job Experience
This section allows you to list your previous jobs and experience. You can list one previous job or multiples but at the least you should list all previous jobs that are relevant to your job search. Just use the Add More button at the bottom of the page or use the red X to delete job fields. You can also use the green arrow to move the order of jobs if you wish.
It is always a good idea to start with the most current position first. However, if you want the employers focus to be on a past position then move that up to the top of the list.
For 'Industry' please either choose Property or Other. If you are coming from an Industry outside of property, i.e. Banking, Law, Engineering, then select Other and mention what Industry it is in the role description.
In the 'Description' section you should go into more depth and detail about previous roles, experience and what you achieved. You can use usual Word formatting tools and rather than typing in each description you can just cut and paste from your effluence Resume if you find that easier. There is no limit to how much you can write in each description but remember that precision in what you are trying to say is crucial as most employers, when first looking at Resumes, won't read everything and will instead look for key bits of information relevant to what they are looking for in a candidate.

Qualifications
Here, at the least, you must select your highest education level but after that anything else is optional, however there is never any harm in promoting your other qualifications and previous education. Depending on what type of role you do and are looking for will depend on how strongly you should promote your qualifications, especially your work related training and certificates. Think about what potential employers want to hear in this regard and what they need to hear with respect to professional related training, qualifications and certificates.

My Resume options
The brilliant thing about propertyroles.com is we allow you to promote yourself and look for jobs without having to reveal who you are until it is absolutely necessary. In this section you can decide how you want employers and recruiters to get your contact details.
Firstly though you need to confirm if you want your Resume active and searchable. We would advise you to always have your Resume active and searchable, even if you are currently happy in a job. This is because many who are happy in their current jobs still find it a worthwhile exercise to be searchable and to see which employers request their details. Also, when circumstances do change you have already had your Resume online and searchable creating results you can work off.
With respect to how you want your contact details and full Resume made available, you may wish for your details to be sent through to potential employers and recruiters the moment they request them. This will mean that there is no delay between their request and them receiving your full details. You will of course receive a confirmation email telling you who requested and received your email and contact details.
However you may be in a situation where you wish to review the employers and recruiters who request your details and then decide who sees your contact details. If you want this to happen you just need to select "Email me first and ask my permission before forwarding my Resume and contact details." Then you will get an automatic email asking you to approve or decline the requests as they come through.
After reading all that you are ready to get started and have employers search for you. If you have already registered with propertyroles, click here to sign in and then after signing in click on 'Create My Resume' in the Quick Links menu. Alternatively, if you haven't already registered click here to create your Resume now.

Check and check again
The first piece of advice is to ensure you get a third party to read through your full Resume after you have written it. This is to ensure someone has checked for typos, spelling errors, grammar issues and the general readability of your Resume. You will often find that when you type what you are thinking you may tend to leave words out, by having someone read your Resume this can be avoided. Furthermore make sure you don't just rely on your computer's spell checker.
Appearance and structure
Resumes are best when they are clean, clear and professional. Don't use images, photos or anything else that can look tacky or take away from what you are trying to convey. Always use black text colour on a white paper background with a standard Ariel or Times New Roman font and either font size 10 for Ariel or 11 or 12 for Times New Roman. Also, consider how many Resumes a potential employer has to read through. Therefore they are looking for something which is easy to read and something that is not too long. In very rare circumstances should a Resume be longer than 3 pages.
Whilst there is no agreed structure to a Resume the most common way of building a Resume is to start with providing personal details, then a personal statement/profile, then education and training, then employment history, and then if there is room you can provide a summarised skill set. All Resumes should finish up with a line indicating that references are available on request (see note below).
Some commentators will argue that a personal statement or profile isn't required, however a brief, positive sounding personal profile is never harmful and can be very beneficial. For example;
"I am a motivated self starter who can work autonomously or as part of a team with a strong interest in property development and with strong interpersonal, people management and communication skills."
Sell yourself
Make sure you actually sell yourself in your Resume. It doesn't need to be just a long list of facts. It is ok to tell potential employers how you achieved certain things in the face of opposition or difficulty or how what you did successfully lead to positive outcomes. However don't over exaggerate or lie, when people do this it does tend to come out.
Also, if possible, provide numerical examples of your success. For example, "I led a team which achieved an increase in sales by 12% and a decrease in variable costs of 16% over a like for like period." or "As the Design manager for XZY I delivered 4 major design projects at an average of 3 weeks before scheduled delivery." This helps to clear a lot of uncertainty in what you actually achieved.
References on request
Always ensure you put on your Resume that references are available on request. Firstly this will let you know when they could be about to approach your referees and secondly, depending on the job or the person checking the references, you may wish to amend or adapt those who you rely on for a reference. You need to ensure that those who you choose for a reference have given you their permission to be used and will provide positive feedback for you. Also, make sure they are easily contactable and know that they may be contacted to provide a reference.
